As an indigenous and Latina midwife. I experienced some financial and emotional barriers that came along with pursuing a career in midwifery. As a previous midwifery client, I understand the compounding factors and disparities that go along with being low income and of color when it comes to maternity care in America. Access to midwifery education and midwifery care should not be burdensome for people of color. Our goals are simple: To educate and train midwives of color for free in hopes that they will go out and serve their communities, to pay midwifery apprentices for their assistance in the practice, and to offer free midwifery care to those who qualify.
The Maravilla Midwifery Fund understands the compounding factors some student midwives of color face when pursuing a career in midwifery. Our goal is to provide free pregnancy, and midwifery education materials to our clients and midwifery students and offer as much access to this trade as possible. Midwifery education is life-changing, so Maravilla Midwifery is working very hard on information sheets on topics that will be available to our email subscribers. We hope to offer classes on specific topics that can be helpful and used in obtaining midwifery certification through NARM's PEP process.
The Maravilla Midwifery Fund understands access to midwifery education is challenging especially for student midwives of color for so many reasons. We understand the burden it can be to have an unpaid midwifery apprenticeship. We understand this training and care is historical and gave birth to modern maternity care. We want to decolonize and reclaim the art of midwifery for communities of color. We believe access to free education and paid apprenticeships can help offset the financial burden of midwifery education for folks of all backgrounds.
The Maravilla Midwifery Fund has the goal of providing low cost or free maternity care to those in need. We believe midwifery care is so powerful and nurturing for the whole family that we feel everyone should have access to this type of care if they desire, regardless of their financial ability to pay. We hope to dismantle racial disparities in maternity care by offering access to care for those who are affected by this system, as well as training midwives that will dismantle those same disparities in their communities with their own midwifery practices.
The Maravilla Midwifery Fund is focused on helping families in need in whatever way we can, that is why we are envisioning providing free car seats, baby gear, and clothes to families in our community. We need your help and donations to make this possible. We understand that having a baby is a joyous time but it can be financially hard to balance the needs of everyone in the family including a new baby. We want to eliminate stress and allow these families to have a great transition with their new addition.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and provide excellent care to those in need as well as help midwifery students financially in Central Oregon. 100% of the funds raised will help student midwives financially and help families in need. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
